On December 8, Art U News will be joined by Academy of Art University students, alumni and faculty from the School of Animation & Visual Effects on Clubhouse for a live interview. We will be discussing Studio X’s work on the short film “Rosa,” which is currently available to stream on HBO Max. Director Suha Araj will also participate in the conversation.
About Studio X
Studio X is a faculty-mentored visual effects production studio within the School of Animation & Visual Effects. Students have the opportunity to gain real-world experience working on professional projects alongside Studio X Head of Production Sasha Korellis and Director of 3-D Animation & Visual Effects Catherine Tate.
Notable projects Studio X has worked on include Academy Award-nominated “Beasts of the Southern Wild” and “Theeb,” Ryan Coogler’s “Fruitvale Station,” “The 24th,” and “Strawberry Mansion,” which premiered at that the 2021 Sundance Film Festival.

About “Rosa”
From HBO Max: “Operating out of her aunt’s flower shop, Rosa has made it her side job to ship undocumented bodies home for burial. To avoid any paperwork, red tape and also jail time, her operation is well-intentioned yet completely illegal. Time works against her as Ali, an Iraqi man desperately wants to get his recently deceased father’s body home where he is a respected member of his community. Rosa is Ali’s only hope.”
Written and directed by Suha Araj, the film stars Jackie Cruz, Hadi Tabbal, Zahra Zubaidi, Samir Araj, Wilemina Olivia-Garcia,and Iván Bullón.
