Following crucial updates from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and continuing to work in conjunction with the Pacific West Conference, Academy of Art University announced its athletics events have been canceled for the remainder of the spring season due to growing concerns relating to the Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) on March 16.

“The health and mental wellness of our student-athletes, coaches, and staff continue to be a priority so we are doing everything we can to keep them safe,” said Director of Athletics Brad Jones. “We also continue to emphasize that our coaches help monitor academic success to support our student-athletes through this shift to having online classes.”

The PacWest’s March 16 announcement to cancel the remainder of conference competition and championships as well as all countable athletics-related activities through the end of the spring national championships was determined unanimously by the PacWest’s 12 member institutions working with the conference. The decision acts in accordance with the NCAA’s mandates on competition and eligibility relief as well as in the best interests of the health and safety of the conference’s student-athletes, coaches, athletic staff and fans.

The NCAA’s March 12 announcement regarding the cancellation of all winter and spring championships was based on the evolving COVID-19 public health threat, our ability to ensure the events do not contribute to spread of the pandemic, and the impracticality of hosting such events at any time during this academic year given ongoing decisions by other entities.

As the situation continues to be closely monitored and any reassessments are made, updates will be provided at www.artuathletics.com.
