Animation Alumni to Join Art U News on Clubhouse for Live Interview

On August 18, Art U News will be joined by Academy of Art University School of Animation & Visual Effects alumni Humphrey Cheng (M.F.A., 2019) and Jasmine Vahidsafa (M.F.A., 2020) for a live interview on Clubhouse.

Cheng and Vahidsafa will be discussing their respective careers in animation since graduating, as well as their work on blockbuster films “Black Widow” and “Space Jam: A New Legacy.”

Meet the alumni

Humphrey Cheng graduated from Academy of Art University’s School of Animation & Visual Effects in 2019 with an M.F.A. During Cheng’s time at the Academy, he participated in Studio X, the faculty-mentored animation production studio that allows students to work on real-world projects for real-life clients. He was a character animator on such projects as “Coyote’s Place,” “Jr. Giants: FoodieCats,” and “Steve’s Catch.” He was also the CG animation producer on “Coyote’s Place.” More recently, he was the VFX production assistant on Marvel’s “Black Widow” at Digital Domain. He worked on video game cinematics for games like “Rocket League” and “Fortnite” as a VFX coordinator at Evil Eye Pictures, and he’s currently a production coordinator at Digital Domain.

Jasmine Vahidsafa graduated from Academy of Art University’s School of Animation & Visual Effects in 2020 with an M.F.A. Vahidsafa’s thesis film, “Sharp as Stone,” won Best 2-D Animated Short Film at the annual Spring Show in 2020. The film was also recognized at the Independent Short Film Awards, where it was awarded Gold in the Best Animated Short category. Additionally, “Sharp as Stone” was featured in Gojo Short Animation Gallery’s summer show in Kyoto, Japan, alongside work by her Academy peers. More recently, she worked as a freelance animator/designer/artist for Jagex, she was an animator for Velorean Productions, where she worked on story-matics for “Sesame Street” and was a 2-D effects animator for “Space Jam: A New Legacy.” Currently, she’s a freelance animator for Pencilmation
